Ulefone thermal phones compared

Every Ulefone phone with a thermal camera on sale now, sensor by sensor — and why the sensor matters more than anything else on the spec sheet.

Ulefone sells thermal phones with two kinds of sensor. The Armor 28 Ultra Thermal and Armor 29 Pro Thermal use Ulefone's ThermoVue T2 at 640×512 and 25 Hz. The Armor 27T Pro+ and Armor 27T+ use a FLIR Lepton 3.5 at 160×120 and 9 Hz, measuring −10 °C to 450 °C. The ThermoVue models resolve about seventeen times as many thermal pixels; the FLIR models are lighter and sit in a lower price tier. Ulefone has also previewed a first thermal Armor X model, the Armor X17 Ultra.

Phones currently on Ulefone's store with published thermal figures. Ulefone also sells the Armor Pad 4 Ultra Thermal tablet.

ThermoVue or FLIR: what you are choosing

Resolution is the decision. 640×512 is 327,680 thermal pixels; 160×120 is 19,200. At the higher resolution you can tell which terminal in a panel is hot, follow a cold bridge along a wall, or pick out a person at a distance. At the lower resolution you can tell that something is hot and roughly where, which is enough for a lot of household and maintenance work and not enough for diagnostic inspection.

Refresh rate changes how it feels. At 25 Hz the thermal view moves like video. At 9 Hz, panning across a scene is visibly stepped; for still targets it makes little difference.

Software is different too. The FLIR models use FLIR's MyFLIR Pro app, supported by FLIR. The ThermoVue models use Ulefone's own ThermoVue app and AI sharpening. Both export images you can annotate and send from the phone, which is most of the reason to own a thermal phone instead of a standalone camera.

Which one to buy

  • Thermal is part of your jobBuy a ThermoVue model. The Armor 29 Pro Thermal if battery and a work light matter most; the Armor 28 Ultra Thermal if it is also your everyday phone and you want flagship speed.
  • Occasional use around the house or vehicleThe Armor 27T Pro+ with 5G, or the 27T+ without it. Lighter, cheaper, and enough to find leaks, cold spots and overheating parts.
  • PocketableUlefone's compact thermal model, the Armor Mini 20T Pro, is still in the catalogue. Its official product page did not return specifications when we checked, so confirm the sensor figures with the seller before buying.
Any phone thermal camera has limits

These are inspection tools, not calibrated instruments. They read apparent temperature, which depends on the surface's emissivity: shiny metal reads low. Use them to find patterns and anomalies; if a measurement has to stand up in a report, use a calibrated camera.
